Health Psychologist

Health psychologists use their psychological knowledge to increase general well-being and help to understand physical illness. They support people with the psychological and emotional aspects of illness and health, as well as helping the chronically ill. They do this by promoting healthy lifestyles to clients and advising doctors on better ways to communicate with their patients.

Skills Required

~ The ability to apply psychological knowledge and research to health related problems.

~ Ability to critically analyse

~ Be self-motivated and independent

~ Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to help people with long-term health problems

~ Ability to work with colleagues from other disciplines

~ Have a strong understanding of health psychology and have a wide awareness of current NHS and public health issues.
