Opportunities for Students to be More Globally Active and Aware
Within the Psychology Dept we are increasing opportunities for students to be more globally active and aware. There are three areas where the Dept supports global activities for students:
(i) many international activities are non-curricular (not part of the degree), but they are just as important and often easier to participate in than curricular opportunities:
-
we have an agreement with Humboldt University (Berlin, Germany) which will enable students to visit (usually in holiday periods) to spend some time on research activities (contact Dr Ellen Seiss on eseiss@bournemouth.ac.uk).
-
the Global Talent Programme (GTP) at BU is an extra-curricular programme that aims to develop students as future-ready global talent. The activities (such as attending language courses and volunteering abroad) equip students with a range of employment and enterprise attributes. Students completing the requirements will receive a certificate at a ceremony and it will be included on the graduation transcript.
-
students are encouraged to participate in the BU Global Festival of Learning events that are advertised centrally throughout the year (Asia, India and China are priority regions that BU has established connections with).
-
students can collaborate with staff as RAs or with final year projects in data collection to contribute to international presentations with academics abroad.
-

(ii) to undertake a work placement abroad as part of the placement year. In 2016/17 ten students were placed abroad (Spain, Sri Lanka, Canada, USA and Finland)
(iii) to study a semester abroad at a university that has a partnership with the Dept. These are highly competitive as we only have an agreement for up to two Undergraduate second-year students to attend Memorial University (Newfoundland, Canada) (contact Dr Jacqui Taylor on jtaylor@bournemouth.ac.uk)
